SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Monday criticised the frequent transfer of officers to various government offices by the present MDA government.
The former chief minister was taking part in a discussion on special motion related to the overall development of the state during the autumn session of the Assembly.
Arguing on the rampant transfer of officers, Sangma said OCs, SPs and officers are being transferred from time to time and asked, “Are they disobeying the government? There must be some reason.”
Pointing out the transfer of revenue director within three months, Sangma said he knew the reason why the director was transferred.
He also pointed out that the State Security Commission to deal with the appointment of DGP and others has not been constituted by the government.
Bakrid circular flayed
The Opposition leader also flayed the circular issued by the Home (police) Department to see that no illegal slaughter of cows takes place during Bakrid.
“The circular was given to all SPs and DCs during Bakrid. In the past our government had said no to such type of notifications,” he said.
Referring to the Centre’s notification on ban on cow slaughter in the past, Sangma said, “We had taken a resolution asking the Government of India to withdraw the notification or amend it.”
According to him, it was not only the Congress government but other political parties had also opposed such move. Sangma wanted to know whether the chief minister, the home minister and other Cabinet members were aware of the circular. “Nobody should whip up contentious issues which are not acceptable to our people,” he said.
