GUWAHATI: A group of six dacoits shot a woman dead and decamped with Rs 5.5lakh along some ornaments from a house in central Assam’s Nagaon district around midnight on Saturday, police sources said.
The gang barged into the house of Md Fakrul Islam at Bogoriguri under Juria police station and opened fire on his wife, Hasmin, 35, when she refused to cooperate with the dacoits.
Neighbours took her to nearest hospital but the attending doctor declared her brought dead.
Nagaon police on Sunday arrested the main accused, Furkan Ali and picked up two other dacoits, Bilal Hussain and Omar Farooq in connection with the incident after a case was lodged at Juria police station.
In a statement issued here, Assam police said that Nagaon superintendent of police, Shankar Brata Raimedhi visited Juria and is monitoring the investigation. Subsequent raids are being launched to apprehend the other dacoits.
