SHILLONG: The youth wing of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has alleged the irregularities in filling up vacancies in the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

In a memorandum to the Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Kyrmen Shylla, KHNAM has demanded the removal of Surojit Bordoloi as consultant of SDMA asserting that the state already has qualified and experienced locals.

The youth wing of the regional political party maintained that proper advertisement should be floated through all local newspapers to ensure youth are aware of the vacancies.

An RTI filed by KHNAM revealed that one application, i.e. of Bordoloi was received in response to the advertisement of consultant of SDMA which was issued on September 17, 2013.

President youth wing, Thomas Passah said the appointment of Bordoloi violates the provision of State Reservation policy which states, “Where the number of vacancies is nine or less, the same shall be treated as reserved vacancies in favour of the protected communities as specified in the said resolution and office memoranda.”

Further, the RTI revealed there are no permanent and contractual employees of the SDMA. At the same time, the list of post sanctioned for SDMA is found to be nil.

In their meeting with the Minister, the KHNAM was told the officers of the department would be called to discuss the findings.
