Undertrial inmate dies in Jhalawar jail in Rajasthan
Kota: A 40-year-old undertrial inmate lodged in Jhalawar sub jail has died under suspicious circumstances after complaining of stomach pain, police said on Sunday. Undertrial Dulhe Singh, resident of Rampuriya village here, died Saturday evening while he was being taken to SRG hospital after complaining of severe stomach pain, they said, adding that the body was handed over to the family members Sunday after postmortem by a medical board and investigation into the matter was underway. The deceased inmate, charged under section 16/54 of the Excise Act, was lodged in the jail since October 14, Deputy Jailor, Jhalawar sub jail, Mohan Lal said. Singh was administered first-aid when he first complained of stomach ache on Saturday evening, Lal said. He was being taken to the SGR hospital after his condition deteriorated, the deputy jailor said, adding that the inmate, however, died on the way. The doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead, he further said. (PTI)
Two women among 3 held for printing, circulating fake notes
Rajkot: Three persons, including two women, were arrested for allegedly printing fake currency notes and circulating them in market in Gujarat, police said on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off that two women were using fake currency notes to make purchases in the Sardar Gam locality, police arrested the duo, Wahidaben Ramodiya (50) and Manju Raniga (50), Saturday, an official said. Eighty-seven pieces of counterfeit notes in denominations of Rs 200 and Rs 500 with a face value of Rs 19,000 were recovered from them, he said. On interrogation, the duo told the police that notes were printed using a colour printer by one Vasantbhai Rajput at Wahidaben Ramodiya’s house on Dudhsagar Road, Ajidam police station inspector P N Vaghela said. “We raided the house and arrested Rajput and also seized a colour printer, scanner and papers used to print fake currency notes,” he said. The police also seized three fake notes in Rs 200 denomination from shopkeepers which were circulated by the accused, Vaghela said, adding further investigation was on. (PTI)
Scrap collector held for sexual assault bid on minor girl
Surat (Gujarat): A scrap collector has been arrested for allegedly trying to sexually assault an eight-year-old girl in the parking area of a residential building in Surat in Gujarat, the police said on Sunday. The accused Amrutbhai Devipujak has been caught on CCTV cameras taking the girl to the parking area of the residential apartment in Athwalines locality on Thursday. The footage also shows him leaving the spot in a hurry, as someone from the apartment was walking down the staircase at that time, an official said. The accused was arrested Saturday night after an FIR was lodged, said Athwalines police station inspector S B Bharwad. “Devipujak was arrested last night on the basis of CCTV camera grabs in which he is seen taking the 8-year-old girl to the parking area of the apartment. It seems the accused could not harm the girl and had to leave in hurry, after noticing that someone was walking down the staircase,” he said. Devipujak has been booked under sections 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) and 354 (Assault with an intention to outrage modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, Bharwad added. Smuggled gold worth Rs 3 crore seized at Bengaluru airport
Bengaluru: Smuggled gold weighing 9.2 kg and valued at Rs three crore was recovered from an unclaimed baggage at the international airport here, Customs sources said on Sunday. The yellow metal was found concealed in a speaker inside the baggage during scanning Saturday night and no passenger came forward to claim it. The gold was worth Rs 3 crore, they said adding a probe has been launched to trace the person, who brought the consignment. However, the sources did not mention the place from where the baggage arrived. (PTI)
2 dozen passengers injured as bus collides with truck in UP
Farukhabad: Over two dozen passengers were injured when an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus collided with a truck on the Etawah-Bareilly Highway in Rajepur area here on Sunday, police said. The incident occurred when the bus was coming towards Farukhabad from Bareilly, they said. The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the condition of four people was stated to be critical. (PTI)
Cop killed by militants in J&K
Srinagar: A sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police on his way home was shot dead by militants in Pulwama district in South Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. The body of sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, who was posted with the CID in Srinagar’s Sheergadi, was recovered from the Chewa Kalan area of the district, the officials said. He was targeted when he was returning home, they said. The police have registered a case and investigating has been taken up, the officials said. (PTI)
Boy dies while taking selfie
Kolkata: A 15-year-old boy died after he was hit by a train while clicking a selfie with another moving train in West Bengal’s Purba Burdwan district, police said on Sunday. Biswajit Turi was clicking the selfie near Noadar Dhal station when he was hit by the train on Friday, an official said. He was taken to a hospital where he died. (IANS)
Body of minor girl found in bag
New Delhi: The body of a minor girl was found stuffed in a trolley bag at a roadside near Yamuna Biodiversity Park on Sunday, a police official said. Police were informed about the incident at 7.30 am and a team from the Timarpur police station visited the spot, the official said. When police opened the unclaimed bag, the body of an almost eight to nine-year-old girl was found, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Nupur Prasad said. The police spotted a strangulation mark on the neck of the victim, she said. The body was taken to the Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital. Police are also scanning through profiles of missing girls and trying to identify the deceased, the DCP said. (PTI)
