TURA: The husband of the staff nurse at Bajengdoba Hospital who was accused of harassing an elderly patient a few days ago has issued a clarification giving their version of the incident.

According to the husband Tochang Sangma, on December 2 around 9:30 am, one Kennar Marak, a former ALMA militant who was known to the resident doctor of the hospital had approached his wife who was a nurse asking to be administered an injection without a prescription. The man was told that nurses cannot administer injection to anyone without a prescription. However, the man persisted but was repeatedly told to produce a prescription upon which, he started creating a commotion at the hospital.

The man finally left only to return at around 10:30 am and again started pestering the staff, even going to the extent of entering the staff room and making inappropriate remarks as well as attempting to manhandle the staff on duty. It was only when other people present rushed to the spot that the man left in a scooty parked outside.

With regard to the delay in filing an FIR against Kennar, the husband said that the resident doctor had persuaded her wife to wait in the hope that the matter can be solve amicably in the event that he comes to the hospital to apologize. The wife delayed the FIR for 4 days and it was only on the fifth day that the FIR was filed against Kennar.

On the claim by Kennar that he had tried to disrupt the meeting of NGO leaders, Tochang said that a meeting did take place where he had enlightened the gathering about what had really taken place at the hospital on December 2 after which the gathering dispersed.

Interestingly, while Kennar had alleged Tochang to be a former ALMA militant in the earlier statement released to the media, it has been revealed by highly reliable sources that it is in fact Kennar who is a former ALMA militant.

Meanwhile, as FIR has already been filed against Kennar, immediate action by police is being sought against him.
