TURA: Citizens of Tura have received some respite from the gruelling three hours of load shedding during the late hours of the night in view of the 145 ABDK Soba, the biggest religious event in the Garo Hills.
The load shedding that was in place from midnight till 3 AM every day since January has been halted for this week, beginning Tuesday night, until the conclusion of the religious event.
The ABDK soba that begins on Wednesday will conclude on Sunday evening and close to three lakh people from the length and breadth from the north east and beyond are expected in Tura.
“There will be no load shedding in Tura town during the Soba. Other areas of the district will continue with the power cut as per the schedule,” informed West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Ram Singh while speaking to The Shillong Times on Tuesday night.
Tura has been witnessing large crowds of devotees and tourists thronging the ABDK venue and other places to witness the decorations. The number of people continue to swell even late into the night as people move all around the town to catch a glimpse of the illuminated decorations which have come up all around the biggest town in Garo Hills.
