NPP reiterates stand of severing ties with NDA

SHILLONG: With the Central BJP leadership still harping on bringing back the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, NPP legislator and Home Minister James Sangma reiterated the party’s intention to sever ties with the BJP led NDA if the CAB is passed.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme in the city on Monday, James said national president of NPP and chief minister of the state, Conrad Sangma made his stand clear to break away from the NDA if the bill is passed.
“Our president is very clear when he said that if the Bill is passed, we will break ties with the NDA,” James said.
It was during the NPP’s general body meeting that Conrad had said that the party will break ties with NDA if the CAB is passed in Rajya Sabha.
He recalled the NPP’s opposition to the CAB and termed the bill as “harmful” to the people of the North East and called upon the people to put up a united fight against the bill.
“We must continue to stand united and fight against it and if it is brought again, we will once again stand up against it,” he said.
The anti-CAB voices heaved a sigh of relief when CAB was not tabled in the recent Rajya Sabha session but in an interesting turn of events, BJP national president, Amit Shah pledged to bring back the CAB.
