MAWKYRWAT: The HSPDP gained more support on Tuesday before the February 27 council elections after hundreds of leaders from other parties joined the HSPDP here. Leaders from the NPP, KHNAM, PDF and Congress who joined the HSPDP said they decided to support the regional party after seeing the capability of local MLA and HSPDP leader Renikton L Tongkhar who managed to get sanction for 12 roads in different parts of Mawkyrwat under various schemes.
“The capability of Bah Renik to bring in development was the main reason that I joined the HSPDP, especially after seeing that the Rangmaw-Phlangkynshi road that was constructed in the 1960s finally get sanction for blacktopping,” said former PDF leader from Phlangkynshi village Toni Kharlyngdoh. Most of the new entrants are from the PDF and a few are from the Congress, KHNAM and NPP. Former general secretary of the BJP Mawkyrwat Mandal Nobendro Dkhar said he and his supporters decided to support the HSPDP in the upcoming council polls.
Tongkhar, who was present in the meeting, said the HSPDP has taken a bold stand against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 since day one.
Tongkhar also said the HSPDP will perform better in the upcoming election than the last Assembly Election. “Though we will contest less seats we have selected good candidates and we are very confident that we will perform better in the upcoming MDC election than the last Assembly election,” Tongkhar said.
Meanwhile, president of HSPDP Mawkyrwat and MDC candidate Nolip Lyngdoh welcomed the new leaders and supporters and urged them to work hard for the party’s victory.
