SHILLONG: The Department of Anthropology at NEHU will organise Tribal Animation Film Festival from Friday at Old Guest House on the university campus.
Addressing the press on Thursday, coordinator of the festival Tara Douglas said this is the first time that such an event is being organised in the North East.
The three-day festival hopes to engage both the young and the old and will have storytellers from the indigenous communities and it will also screen Khasi animation film U Syiem.
Stating that cultural tradition is lost in most tribal communities, she said, “The festival aims to highlight indigenous tribal Adivasi culture in animated films.”
She observed that the younger generation is caught up with digital media and lost interest in traditional values.
According to Douglas, the festival, which will conclude on Sunday, will seek to re-engage the youth through the medium of digitisation to uphold tribal culture.
