SHILLONG: The state Cabinet has decided to allot Umjot (renamed as Wah Umiam stage1 ) and Umduna (renamed as Wah Umiam stage II) to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).
After the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Power Minister James Sangma said that the meeting of the empowered committee of the power department was held regarding the allotment of these two projects. The Cabinet allotted the stage I and stage II even as he added that the stage III project is also being implemented by NEEPCO.
Earlier the project was supposed to be implemented by Etha Star. The previous government had approved the cancellation of the agreement signed with private developers for the two projects at Umduna and Umjot, since they failed to proceed for development of the projects.
The detailed estimates of the project will now be prepared by the Power department, Sangma added.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the draft guarantee deed since the Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited is seeking a loan of Rs 60 crore from Rural electrification Corporation Ltd in order to meet the remaining liabilities for the final cost of the Myntdu Leshkha hydro project.
