SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress has accused the NPP-led government of de-sanctioning many schemes while asserting there is no reason for it to celebrate its one year in office.
A day after the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government completed a year, party spokesperson Zenith Sangma said there is not much for it to show for with law and order, sports and social welfare schemes still taking a back seat.
“They (MDA Govt) are talking as if they are bringing a lot of money, instead they are de-sanctioning schemes,” Zenith said.
Alleging that many of the social welfare schemes initiated by the previous Congress regime are not reaching the people anymore, he added that the state government is not coming out with any scheme which could benefit the people.
“Different missions like mission football, too, have taken a hit,” he said
On law and order, Sangma said that the Congress regime had managed to restore peace, but the NPP-led government is not able to even handle a situation like the Harijan Colony unrest.
“They failed to nip the problem in the bud and it is still lingering,” Sangma said.
Portraying their role as a responsible Opposition, Sangma said, “We as a responsible Opposition are trying to bring to their notice various issues, but they are deny everything.
“We had warned the government about the instances of illegal mining and ultimately the fallout is for everyone to see,” he said.
He further said that people are fed up with the performance of the government and they would give their verdict at the right time.
