MAWKYRWAT: The residents of Mawkyrwat will take a decision if the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corpo-ration (MePDCL) should hand over the services to a private firm.
The Mawkyrwat Electricity Consumers Forum (MECF) will hold a public meeting at Mawkyrwat Market at 12:30 pm on Friday.
MECF chairman Wallambok K Syiemiong said, “In the meeting held on April 25, the headmen and NGO leaders from Mawkyrwat area were not satisfied with the explanation by the Chief Engineer and other officials of the MePDCL about the handing over of electricity services to the company. Therefore, we have decided to take the issue to the public so that we can take the final decision whether to cooperate with the FEDCO or to continue working with MePDCL only.”
The MECF has urged all the headmen, secretaries, NGOs and the villagers of South West Khasi Hills District to attend the meeting.
The forum also requested all the consumers especially the shop keepers of Mawkyrwat market to keep their shops close for one hour from 12 to 1:30 pm to attend the meeting, Syiemiong said.
