SHILLONG: The UDP has attributed fear factor spread by the opponents over CAB and atrocities to minorities that resulted in the defeat of common candidate and UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh. UDP president Donkupar Roy said that fake news was spread that Christians were attacked in the past and that the lone regional party member cannot contribute much in Delhi even if he is elected. Roy said in his constituency Shella and adjacent Sohra, the UDP candidate secured less votes.
To a question, Roy said the MDA partners have worked hard but other factors resulted in the defeat of Mawthoh, who according to the party president was the right candidate to contest the seat.
He thanked the people and the MDA partners for the support extended to the common candidate. Mawthoh also felt that the BJP-CAB issues played havoc for him.
“BJP-CAB issue played havoc out here and Congress was able to spread all what they had to,” Mawthoh said. Stating that he respects the mandate of the people, Mawthoh said the results are indicative that the CAB tag on UDP was not liked by the people.
