Youth dies in city accident

SHILLONG: A 27-year-old youth died on the spot in a case of hit-and-run in the city late on Thursday night.
Larry Kupar Jana Nongbet, a resident of Nongrim Hills, was travelling on his scooter when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle in a head-on collision near the Pantaloons shopping mall near Fire Brigade ground.
The scooter was coming from Dhankheti and the vehicle came from Fire Brigade, police said adding that all available CCTV cameras along the stretch of the road are being checked to trace the vehicle.
The youth was taken to Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Police later handed over the body to the family who had earlier requested that post mortem may not be conducted.
While urging two wheeler riders and four-wheeler drivers to drive carefully especially at night, police said that they are conducting frequent checking to ensure that people abide by the Motor Vehicle Act.
