MeECL employee electrocuted

JOWAI: An employee of the MeECL working as Jaguli under the MePDCL was electrocuted on Sunday as he was clearing bushes in the electric pole at Matdein village in West Jaintia Hills.
The MeECL has a sub-power station at Thangrain village. The victim identified as Rimistar Lamare of Thangrain village had informed his colleague about his work and the latter was supposed to cut off the power in the area until the work was completed. However, the person in the sub-station failed to do so and the jugali was electrocuted while he was cleaning the poles and fell down with burn injuries.
His body was later taken to Jowai civil hospital, Ialong for autopsy and his family members have demanded compensation.
The Chief Executive Office, MeECL, Jowai said, “I am aware of the incident and we will help his kin with compensation”.
SB Umdor, the CEO, also informed that he had instructed his SDO, L Sungoh, to conduct a proper investigation into the incident.
