Price of implants/stents/pacemakers to be capped

SHILLONG: Director of NEIGRIHMS Dr D M Thappa has apprised the Union Health Secretary that the procedure for procuring cardiac devices is being steamlined with short term and long term solutions.
In a letter to the union health official that came after Congress legislator P T Sawkmie had sought the intervention of the President of India, the director said that the institute with its motto to serve the poor patients is on its path to streamline the process and procedure of supply of essential hospital items keeping in mind the directives from the Centre.
According to the director, the implants/stents/pacemakers and others in the department of Cardiology are one of the essential hospital items and the union ministry had issued direction for capping of the prices of various implants.
The director also referred to interception of certain packets meant for Cardiology department on April 30 and they are under the scrutiny of the Vigilance Committee.
This has brought some disruption in the functioning of Cardiology department on May 1 and 2, the director said.
The director added that for the last two years, NEIGRIHMS has been making phenomenal growth in number of patients attending patient care services by simplification of registration at OPD, opening of AMRIT pharmacy among others.
The projects like Nursing College, Regional Cancer Centre, Medical College and a guest house are nearing completion, the NEIGRIHMS director added.
