SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the menace of drug abuse needed be taken up at the regional level. “We have mentioned this at different levels to the bureaucrats in Delhi and even at the political leaders. May be in weeks or months’ time we may have a joint discussion on how to tackle this menace,” he said.

He said the drug trafficking has been going on for quite some time following which the state government has directed police to take action wherein “things started coming out of the cupboard.”

Other than the drugs menace, the CM informed that drug trafficking would be under the constant watch of the intelligence and the police on the ground.

Regarding human trafficking, Sangma said aggressive action was also being taken in this regard.

“We are not going to take this very lightly. A lot of intelligence has been collected in the past few months. We have decided that we will go aggressively about it,” he said.
