Mushroom cultivation workshop held to uplift farmers

SHILLONG: Following the visit of Meghalaya Farmers’ Welfare Commission (MFWC) chairman K.N. Kumar and the pledge made by the farmers for the adoption of natural farming, a one-day workshop on mushroom cultivation was conducted at Integrated Agricultural Training Centre and Meghalaya Mushroom Development Centre, Upper Shillong on Thursday.
As many as 108 farmers from six villages in and around Laitdiengsai area under Mawkynrew Block, attended the innovative and interactive workshop on mushroom cultivation at the centre.
The programme was organised by Hill Farmers’ Union (HFU) in collaboration with SSC, Shillong Archdiocese & Meghalaya Mushroom Development Centre
NM Nampui, Secretary, Agriculture department was present on the occasion.
The workshop was designed and conducted by Sumar Kharlukhi, Assistant Director, Horticulture, Mushroom Development Centre.
He also explained the advantages of various types of mushroom cultivation and the uplift of the economic status.
The HFU president, Commander Shangpliang thanked Kumar and the department of Agriculture for hosting such life-changing workshop for the marginalised farmers of the state.
