SHILLONG: Opposition and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mukul Sangma has claimed that rumours about Congress MLAs planning to join different political parties are being generated because the National People’s Party NPP-led state government is shaky even as senior NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the grand old party is leaderless, direc-tionless and a goner both in the state and at the Centre.
Sangma’s show of confidence comes amid reports that some Congress MLAs are likely to join NPP.
Sangma said that Congress members were not shaky and no one is joining any other political party despite continuous attempt at poaching.
“ I maintain that the government is shaky not because of us but because of themselves,” the former chief minister said while adding that there has been a certain amount of poaching exercise by the NPP earlier in respect of Ranikor constituency and the fallout is there for people of the state to see.
According to Sangma, the NPP is still trying to poach on Congress MLAs, but the latter know their strength as the party is deeply rooted in all the constituencies.
Asked about talk within the party for change in CLP leadership, he said that these are internal matters which are not shared with the media.
“ As far as Congress Legislature Party is concerned, it is not governed by personal views of individuals but works as a team,” he said while adding that the party has a system and inherent mechanism to deal with issues.
Asserting that there will always be some ambitious trends, he added that the internal matters of the party are not shared with the press and if somebody is doing it, they are yet to acclimatise themselves with the mechanism of the party and over a period of time they will know how it’s done.
Cong confused: Tynsong
Meanwhile, talking to media persons, Tynsong, who is a former Congressman, said that the party leaders have requested AICC president Rahul Gandhi not to resign but he remains adamant about quitting.
He said that the Congress is totally
confused and is as good as not having any leaders while questioning as to why the AICC president is still sticking to his decision of resigning despite senior leaders of the UPA asking him not to do so.
Talking about the state Congress, Tynsong said they always knew that the party was a divided house even before the elections.
It may be mentioned that in the house of 60, the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government consists of  NPP (21),  UDP (7), two independents supporting UDP, PDF (4), HSPDP (2), BJP (2), NCP (1) besides another independent. The Opposition Congress has 19 MLAs.
