SHILLONG: The student’s of St Edmund’s College have expressed concern over the continous stalemate between the Governing body and the teachers of the college.
Some students on the request of anonymity said that the management has failed to fulfill the promises made by them to the students, in black and white.
The students said the non-existence of a Student Council is one of the issues that they are facing in the college.
“If it existed, it would have been of great help to students in raising their internal and individual issues,” a student said.
The students demand for transparency regarding their college fees that keeps increasing besides a proper fee structure, for every semester.
With regards to the Social Work Department, they said a certain amount of money is paid for their community visit and fieldwork expenses annually but it was never utilized for the particular purpose.
“Although the departmental magazine fee was included in the total fees paid by the students, however, it was never published. No matter what the situation may be, the main concern for the students is resuming of classes and to have a normal educative environment which could only happen if the teacher’s and student’s needs are met,” they added.
The concerned students want the teachers and the management to come to a negotiation.
Since the teachers are the backbone of the students, they want the management to resolve the matter at the earliest as this situation is putting the their academics in jeopardy.
