SHILLONG: As part of the makeSOMEONESmile initiative, the same team that had earlier organised a cleaning drive in Laitlum regrouped on Sunday at Golf Links and conducted a cleaning drive in the area.
The cleaning drive was organised after members of the group namely Shuvam Roy, Sidhant Deb, Sohini Das and Abhilasha Sinha could not help but notice the trash around the area.
Priyankur Nandy, who is also part of the team said that they utilised social media apps such as Whatsapp to coordinate with volunteers and build up a team willing to take up the challenge.
Around 25 members took part in the cleaning drive which also aimed to spread awareness among the public on the negative effects of littering. Members also put up a few banners on environment preservation. More than 70kgs of waste was collected during the clean up and was later properly disposed off in Mawiong.
