SHILLONG: As many as seven Village Employment Councils (VEC) in West Garo Hills have asked the Principal Secretary of the Education department to initiate a high level inquiry after ten tainted teachers were appointed in different schools of the district.
The seven VECs in a letter alleged that the Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre through a letter on September 10, 2018 had issued termination order to three teachers— Sayed Hussain, Azibor Rahman, Rajkishor Pandey—on the ground that they were declared as tainted by the CBI and subsequently by the High Court.
The letter from the SDSEO stated the services of the teachers were terminated as per the letter received from the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, Meghalaya.
According to the letter of the VECs, Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre on September 11, 2018 again issued another termination order for seven teachers on the same ground. They are: Narzima Hoque, Ainul Hoque, Pankaj Rabha, Sahanur Islam, Hemanta Rabha, Mukul Hajong, Monoranjan Koch,
According to the letter, the Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre , Ela Begum Laskar, later issued another letter on March 4, 2019 where she appointed the ten tainted teachers even as the letter said that their re-appointment is a violation of the High Court order as well the order of the Director of the department.
The VECs, while asking the government to place the Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre under suspension, said that most of the teachers are enjoying their salary without doing their job.
The last order issued by the Sub Divisional School Education Officer, Dadenggre on March 4, 2019 stated that the ten teachers were being allowed to continue as Assistant Teacher on contractual basis for 59 days with a break of one day in the pay scale of Rs 24700-58400 plus other allowances.
The letter also said that the appointment was purely temporary and liable to be terminated without any notice and assigning any reason thereof, adding that the teachers were allowed to continue in pursuance of the letter received from Joint Director of School Education and Literacy, Tura.
