SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) central body has opposed the notification issued by the Directorate of Commerce and Industries usurping powers of the autonomous district councils (ADCs) in industrial areas.
In a statement issued here, the organisation said the notification is erroneous and unacceptable.
In this connection, the organisation said that the district council should demand revocation of the notification.
Attributing the notification to “vested interest”, the organisation said that it is meant to allow outsiders to start their business and trade without any trading license.
It may be mentioned that the Directorate, through the “notice for general information”, had earlier informed that Export Promotion Industrial Park, Extended Export Promotion Industrial Park, Umiam Industrial Estate (all in Ri-Bhoi District), Shillong Industrial Estate, Short Round Road, Polo Hills, East Khasi Hills, Khliehtyrshi Industrial Estate, West Jaintia Hills, Nongstoin Industrial Estate, Mawiaban, West Khasi Hills, Tura Industrial Estate, Matchakolgre, Tura, West Garo Hills, Mendipathar Growth Center, Mendipathar, North Garo Hills, Mendipathar Industrial Estate and Williamnagar Industrial Estate, East Garo Hills are owned by the state government under the Commerce & Industries Department and as such they do not fall under the jurisdiction of ADCs nor under any traditional bodies/institutions.
During the summer session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) held in July, the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Teinwell Dkhar, had said a delegation of MDCs will meet the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, and the ministers after the session to discuss the notification which has snatched the council’s authority in the industrial estates.
