SHILLONG: Chief Electoral Officer F R Khakongor on Friday launched the state level electors verification programme (EVP) at Mylliem common services centre (CSC), East Khasi Hills district.
The programme aims at ensuring a cent per cent error-free electoral roll by engaging CSCsS.
Also present at the launch were the Jt. CEO Meghalaya, R P Marak, Block Development Officer, Mylliem Block, P Passah, State head CSC, Joshua Lyngdoh, officials from the Election Department and the Rangbah Shnongs.
The programme starts on September 1 and will go on till October 15. It will help the electors to crosscheck their details registered in the voters’ list.
Speaking on the occasion, Kharkongor said that elector’s photo identity card (EPIC) is an authenticated document which every Indian citizen who has attained the age of 18 years should possess because this can ensure services and benefits to the public. The engagement of CSCs in the programme will facilitate necessary updating of the details in the electoral rolls and the public can now avail the services right at their doorstep.
He also informed that through EVP, citizens cannot only authenticate their details in the EPIC, but can also offer suggestions with regard to their polling stations.  He called upon all eligible voters to come forward to verify the details by providing the documents approved by the Election Commission. Therefore, he called upon the Rangbah Shnongs to disseminate the information in their respective localities and encourage the citizens to come forward and take advantage of the facilities provided.
J Nongrum, Sr. System Engineer, in his presentation on EVP, informed that the citizens can verify their electoral details through ‘Voter helpline’ mobile app, NVSP portal, by visiting CSCs in their vicinity or by submitting a hard copy of filled up forms through their BLOs who will make a house-to-house visit to gather information of un-enrolled citizens/dead/shifted electors. He also said that the public can verify their EPIC in these centres by furnishing any of the documents approved by the ECI. A help line has also been set up wherein citizens, including people with disabilities, can call by dialling 1950 for any queries.
The CEO also released the EVP awareness video, EVP creative/posters and also handed over the posters/stickers to CSC, BDO and Rangbah Shnongs.
Similarly, East Khasi Hills DC, M War Nongbri inaugurated the CSC at Shillong Bar Association. The programme was organised by the office of the District Election Officer.
Speaking on the occasion, War said it was the responsibility of the citizens to come forward to correct the rolls. She implored all present to carry forward the information on the availability of the different platforms to rectify the electoral details.
A technical presentation on EVP was made by G Jywra while M B Tongper, ADC (Election) delivered the introductory speech.
