SHILONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday asked the people to live a day per week for the nation.
Speaking at the U Tirot Sing Best Student Award (2019) ceremony organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in the city on Saturday, Conrad while recalling his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the influential quotes of his, informed the gathering that during the meeting on NITI Ayog, the Prime Minister had said that a lot of people have died for the country in the past and that “we should live for the Nation”.
“Let us live for our nation. Every week at least once. Live for our nation by not using power for one hour and conserving it, by using buckets to take a bath instead of a shower and by walking to school once a week”.
According to Conrad, these little sacrifices will benefit others and the country as well.
Emphasising on the benefits of these ideals, Conrad said, “Let us think in those lines of how to live for our nation.”
“We need not do big things, but if each one of us do our part, it will be a huge contribution for the nation”.
Calling for a holistic approach to safeguard the environment, Conrad said, “The earth is in ICU and all our children should realise this not just those at the helm of power but each one of us has the responsibility to save it”.
Meanwhile, Health Minister AL Hek urged the students to work hard in order to realise their dreams and that of their parents.
He further said that being qualified is not enough, and one should strive to be a good citizen.
The chief minister also conferred awards to meritorious students during the programme.
