USTM recalls PA Sangma on 72nd birth anniversary

GUWAHATI: The University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) remembered former Lok Sabha Speaker and former Meghalaya chief minister, P.A Sangma, as an exemplary statesman and source of inspiration at a solemn function held at the university’s Nine Mile campus on the occasion of his 72nd birth anniversary on Sunday.
A large number of students and staff of the university participated in the celebration and paid floral tributes to the great personality, a statement issued here, said.
Addressing the gathering, Mahbubul Hoque, chancellor of USTM said, “Sangma has been an all-time inspiration and great support to USTM since its inception.
“At USTM, his memories are treasured in the form of a Chair for Tribal Research, one university block has been named after him, and particularly the upcoming medical college is also named after the great personality.
“We are doing this so that the future generations remember this great national personality from the Northeast and get inspired by his deeds and ideals to keep on doing good work”, Hoque said.
He said PA Sangma was an exemplary statesman, founder of NPP-the first national political party in the North East, and a popular political leader.
