BSF organises Hindi Diwas
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force, Shillong organized the ‘Hindi Diwas’ at BSF Frontier Headquarter, Umpling, Shillong, on Monday to promote Hindi. Officers and personnel from various headquarter under Frontier HQ, Shillong participated in the programme. Hindi is one of the most widely spoken languages in most parts of the country. People clearly understand and express their views in Hindi language which is deep rooted in the society. During the fortnight-long celebration, competitions like quiz, noting/drafting, essay writing and typing in Hindi were organised as per the directions of Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs. Ajai Singh DIG/Principal Staff Officer, President of Rajbhasha (Hindi) committee distributed prizes to the BSF personnel who obtained first, second and third positions in various competitions and congratulated them. Singh urged the officers to promote Hindi as it is our obligation.

Shira reviews schemes at Resubelpara
TURA: Deputy Speaker and MLA, Timothy D Shira, who is also the Chairman District Planning & Development Council (DPDC) convened a meeting with the heads of all line departments to track status of the ongoing central and state sponsored schemes at the Circuit House in Resubelpara on Monday. The meeting was also attended by Rupert Momin, Kharkutta MLA and S C Sadhu, Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills. During the review meeting, Shira informed the district officials that the DPDC meeting aims to bridge the gap between public representatives and implementing officials so that any issues or challenges surface in the process of implementation of government schemes could be addressed appropriately. He further urged the officials to sensitise the rural populace on various government schemes by organising workshops across the district in order to make the people aware of their benefits. The officials were also advocated to work in close coordination for effective implementation of the central and state funded schemes.

Art exhibition with a difference
SHILLONG: Local artist Jaya Kalra has been holding an exhibition at Chrysallis in Police Bazar. The exhibition focusses on healing through art and has paintings which cure imsomnia, joint pain and depression, among others. She said paintings can be customised according to problems. Governor Tathagata Roy had inaugurated the programme. Kalra is a practitioner of alternative medicine.

Lions’ Club elects new members
TURA: The Lions’ Club of Tura was reconstituted with new members for the year 2019-20 in a meeting held recently in Tura. The meeting elected Kamal Kr Agarwala as president, Vikash Agarwal as 1st vice president, Anushi Kandelwal as 2nd vice president and Anil Agarwala as 3rd vice president, Suresh Agarwal as secretary, Rajesh Jatia and Anju Beriwal as joint secretaries, Manoj Beriwal as treasurer, Rina Saha and Sudip Chanda as joint treasurers, Ashok Kandelwal as PRO, Abhijeet Bhatacharjee as MDC, Rohit Prasad as tammer, Gobindo Khundu as tel twister, Sachida Nanda as club administrator and Abhijit Das as adviser besides three directors – Parthoker Serthi Purkayastha, Bidyat Kuller and Prabin Panthi.

DC launches RVV in SWGH
AMPATI: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, District Health Society, Ramkumar S launched the Rotavirus Vaccine (RVV) in the district by administering the first dose of the vaccine to a beneficiary at Ampati on Monday. DM&HO, K.A. Sangma, District Immunisation Officer, C.R. Sangma, medical officers of all health facilities of the district and members of the District Task Force on Immunisation (DTFI) were among others present during the launch of the vaccine. The vaccine is being introduced in the routine vaccination programme in the district. The DC urged upon the health functionaries to ensure that all targeted children are covered under the vaccination programme. The vaccine is administered along with OPV and Pentavalent injection with the first dose at 6 weeks, second dose at 10 weeks and the third dose at 14 weeks.
