Nongpoh: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for redressal of matters of child rights violation in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Commission for protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) supported by the District Administration, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh, was held at District Library Auditorium Hall, Nongpoh on Friday.
Member of NCPCR Pragna Parande, in her speech at the inaugural function, highlighted that NCPCR, which is for protection of Child Rights, is a statutory body and works under the aegis of Ministry of Women and Child Development.
“This commission aims to protect, promote and defend the child rights in all over the country. Furthermore, this commission works together and is partnered with the state commission,” Parande said.
She also informed that NCPCR bench has conducted hearing on cases at different states, adding that the bench sitting was to look into the matters pertaining to deprivation and violation of child rights in the district, the state and the country as a whole. She encouraged school children and parents to avail the opportunity and come up with genuine complaints to clear their doubts for their welfare.
In the bench sitting, many complaints have been filed by the complainants with regard to school books, water supply, school drinking water, school toilet, electricity, sexual abuse, cyber crime, child labour and other school facilities.
Parande also informed that all the complaints which were received on Friday in the bench will be followed up by the commission.
She also expressed concern over POCSO-related matters happening in the district and other parts of the country.
“It is the need of hour for parents  to be alert of their children from child marriage, and children must be careful of themselves. Liberty is given to all, but children should not misuse their rights and their liberty to end up their future life in a burden,” she said.
Meanwhile, Parande also urged the school children to come out of their personal trauma, if any, and share to the commission for resolution. She directed the departments concerned pertaining to drinking water supply, electricity, school toilets, health and other school facilities to fulfill all the requirements of the children’s need  within the fixed time period.
The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah has also directed the officials of concerned department to inspect schools, construct separate toilets for girls and boys and also provide safe drinking water supply in all schools for the benefit of children.
