Condolences pour in for Archbishop

SHILLONG/TURA: The Shillong Press Club has expressed its anguish and pain at the unfortunate demise of beloved and respected Most Reverend Dominic Jala, Archbishop of the Shillong Archdiocese in the US on October 11.
An affable man of God who was always accessible to all with all humility, he will be most missed by the fraternity.
The Shillong Press Club prayed that he rests in everlasting peace safe in the arms of the Almighty. “At the same time, may God Almighty grant solace to the bereaved family and to scores of faithful that value the Great man of God,” the club said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the members of the Frontier Chamber of Commerce also expressed its deep sorrow and grief at the demise of Jala.
The Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi also condoled his death saying he contributed tremendously to the growth and strength of the Catholic church.
The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), state youth wing and the movement at large is deeply shock of the sudden and untimely demise of the Archbishop.
“This is the loss not of just one religion, but the State has lost a personality that has touched the hearts of people of all faith, backgrounds and regions,” KHNAM said in a press communiqué.
KHNAM stated that Jala had lived a life teaching religious harmony, peace and harmony amongst all. The organisation extended their sympathy and deepest condolences to all the members of the bereaved family and pray for comfort and healing for all in this time of grief.
Music event postponed
The Inter-College Khasi Folk Music Competition and a musical performance by Ki Sur Tynrai Na Pynter organised by the Syngkhong Kyntiew Ri (SKR), St. Edmund’s College, Shilllong which was scheduled on October 23 has been postponed to October 29 on account of the funeral of Archbishop Jala.
The SKR, St. Edmund’s College has expressed its sincere condolences on the sudden demise of the Archbishop.
The YWCA of Shillong in its meeting expressed sadness at the sudden demise the Archbishop. As a mark of respect, the YWCA observed one-minute silence. “We expressed our heartfelt condolences to the Archdiocese of Shillong and to the bereaved family. May His beloved soul rest in eternal peace,” the YWCA said.
GH Catholic body condoles
The Garo Hills Catholic Union, Tura Diocese has condoled the untimely demise of Jala.
In a condolence message, the union offered sincere condolences to Jala’s family members and priests and faithful under the Archdiocese of Shillong.
Former MLA mourns death
Meanwhile, HDR Lyngdoh, former MLA of 23-Sohiong constituency has also condoled the death of Jala.
He further conveyed his heartfelt condolences to family members of the Archbishop.
