SHILLONG: Irked by constant and massive abuse of Khasi surnames, jait and clan by outsiders, KHADC MDC Paul Lyngdoh has urged the people to come forward and register their complaints if they know of any such violation.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Lyngdoh said that the KHADC through public order issued, informed the outsiders that it is illegal to take Khasi surnames and if they do so, they are liable to be prosecuted.
‘People should come forward and complain if they know of any outsider misusing Khasi surnames, jait, clan’, Lyngdoh said.
It may be mentioned that action will be taken according to Section 17 (1) and (2) of the Khasi Social Custom of Lineage Act, 1997.
