Lakroh river fish feast on dead cattle
JOWAI: In what may be considered a blessing for the aquatic life of Lakroh river, smugglers have dumped dead cattle into the river and this has become a source of food for the fish for at least a month now. This can be attributed to individuals who are involved in illegally smuggling cattle to Bangladesh. However, smugglers have dumped dead cattle everywhere be it along the national highway, state highway and even the river. The War East Elaka Satpator Fishing And Environmental Protection Association (WEESFEPA), Muktapur said that it has witnessed such activities had held a meeting at Satpator recently. During the meeting, the association issued a warning to all truck drivers, truck owners and smugglers against the disposing of dead cattle into Lakroh river and its tributaries. “If anyone is caught, a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed out of which 20,000 will be deposited into the association funds, 20,000 to the informers and 10,000 to the group involved with the disposing of the dead cattle.

Renewal of licenses
WILLIAMNAGAR: The East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner of Supply has informed that the licenses of all existing fair price shops and SK oil dealers in the district will expire in December. The official circular issued in this regard stated that as per the provisions of the Meghalaya Food-grains (Public Distribution System) Control Order, 2004, the Targeted Public Distribution (Control) Order, 2015 and the Meghalaya Kerosene (Licensing & Distribution) Control Order, 1988, the terms of licenses of all the fair price shop and SK oil dealers in both the urban and rural areas under East Garo Hills will expire on December 31. According to the circular, all FPS and SK Oil dealers have been directed to obtain the details for renewal of licenses from the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Supply) which have to be submitted on or before December 10.

Programme on SBI RSETI

TURA: The State Bank of India (SBI), Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) held a sensitisation programme on its role for rural people at Hotel Polo Orchid in Tura on Wednesday. It was attended by the Assistant General Manager of RBO, Tura, Amitabh Bhattacharjee, along with branch managers from various rural areas of Garo Hills. During the programme, the director of SBI RSETI, Tura, Bikash Ch Sil, explained the objectives of RSETI and how it motivates the trainers and facilitates in the promotion of entrepreneurship development. He also requested all branch managers present to make rural people aware of the programme so that they can avail the benefits.
