Free diabetes screening in city

SHILLONG: To mark the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Bansara Eye Care Hospital in collaboration with the Diabetic Clinic & School of Nursing of Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong, conducted a ‘free diabetic screening, comprehensive eye & diabetic retinopathy screening’ on Thursday.
A programme centering on the theme ‘Family and Diabetes’ was also held at Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital which was attended by Dr. Jennifer Basaiawmoit, medical director of Bansara Eye Care Hospital, Dr. R Nongrum, medical superintendent, Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital, KW Marbaniang, administrative officer, Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital and Rev. P Hynniewta, senior administrative secretary of the Khasi Jaintia Assembly.
The programme also highlighted on the significance of World Diabetes Day which aims to promote awareness about diabetes as a disease that can negatively impact the life of an individual and family.
A team of optometrists and doctors from Bansara Eye Care Hospital as well as nurses from Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital conducted the screening for the people who were present at the event.
The programme was of immense help to the people wherein blood pressure, random blood sampling and body mass index tests were also performed alongside other comprehensive tests.
More than 100 patients were registered and screened at the event.
