Legal notice over accusations
SHILLONG: Andrew R Passah, advocate of the High Court of Meghalaya, has sent a legal notice to Nilberth Ch Marak and Kullendro M Sangma on behalf of his client Denang T Sangma, Chairman of KHADC, for making serious allegations of misappropriating public funds meant for developing the areas which fall under GHADC – Williamnagar Constituency against Sangma. The advocate has asked Nilberth and Kullendro to furnish an unconditional apology in favour of Sangma.
Concern over crime against women
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC), while observing its 23rd Foundation Day on Tuesday, expressed concern on the rising numbers of cases of rape in the state and said that it has exposed the failures of the system of justice. It further stated that women and girls with disabilities continue to be at a heightened risk of abuse. “As we look to the future, and in order to address the chilling impact that rape and sexual violence against women and girls has from the perspective of human rights, urgent action must be taken by government, as well as an independent monitoring mechanisms, civil society organisations and women’s rights movements” said Dino G. Dympep, Chairman MPHRC. The MPHRC has urged the government to ensure access to accountability mechanisms and timely remedies for the effective implementation of laws aimed at preventing sexual violence against women and girls.
Training for farmers in Tura
TURA: The State Bank of India (SBI), Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) organised a training programme for farmers as part of the Kisan Mela at Chandmary Playground in Tura on Tuesday and Wednesday. During the interaction between farmers and scientists, SBI RSETI Tura Director, Bikash Ch Sil explained the role of RSETI to build a successful entrepreneur by proper guidance and effective skill development training programme. He requested the villagers as well as the official dignitaries present in the programme to make awareness of the objective of RSETI which to give skill development training programme to the rural people for their self employment free of cost along with fooding and lodging facility. Skilled farmers trained by SBI RSETI and entrepreneurs also participated in the ‘RSETI Bazar’ organised as part of the Kisan Mela.

Meeting to discuss KHADC bills
SHILLONG: President of the Steering Committee of Dorbar Kur, Khrawbuit Ryntathiang informed that a meeting of the Khasi clans will be held on December 7 at Bharat Scouts and Guides hall. Addressing a press conference, he said that each clan are to send not less than 5 representatives who will discuss on a number of issues relating to the clan and the bills passed by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
