Nagaland Lokayukta orders filing of charge sheet against ex-bureaucrat
Kohima: The Nagaland Lokayukta has given sanction to police to charge sheet a former IAS officer for her alleged involvement in illegal appointment of tourist officers and assistants, an official said. A statement issued by the Director of Nagaland Lokayukta Police, I Meyionen said here on Friday that Lokayukta Justice Uma Nath Singh has accorded prosecution sanction under the Nagaland Lokayukta Act, 2017 against Angau I Thou, retired Commissioner and Secretary, Nagaland government. Thou while working as Tourism commissioner and secretary allegedly backdated appointment of tourist officers and assistants, it said. The statement said that Thou allegedly manipulated records and also violated the election model code of conduct while appointing the tourist officers and assistants. The statement said that she will also be charged under some sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The Nagaland Lokayukta Police shall submit the charge sheet at the earliest, it added. Assam man held for rape, murder of 8-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu
Sivakasi: A 20-year-old man from Assam, working as a casual labourer in a cloth bag company, has been arrested for allegedly raping and murdering an eight-year-old girl here, police said on Thursday. Five others, also belonging to Assam, have also been involved in the crime and were absconding, the police said. The arrested man, A Mojam Ali, has been remanded to judicial custody till February 6, they said. Ali developed friendship with a painter who had come to the cloth bag company for work and later Ali used to visit the painter’s house. Soon, the accused became a friend of the family. On January 18, the painter’s eight-year-old daughter went missing and a police investigation revealed that Ali had taken a half-day off on that day, leading to suspicion. Police detained Ali for interrogation and he confessed to have raped and murdered the girl. Following this, Ali was arrested and sent to police remand. (PTI)
