Rural schools are not inferior: Ex-CM

Mukul inaugurates new school building

 
TURA: Opposition Leader and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said there is a need to change the perception that rural schools are inferior which creates that mental and psychological suppression among the rural students.
Participating in the golden jubilee celebration of Babelapara Higher Secondary School, Purakhasia in South West Garo Hills on Friday, Sangma said there should not be any discrimination.
He also inaugurated a new building of the school which was constructed under Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya a project funded by ADB.
“It was with that concept that the former government had come up with the ADB-funded Supporting Human Capital Development project which is a comprehensive intervention to bridge the gap in providing quality education in the rural areas, he said. He, however, expressed his sadness that the original concept of the project was now slowly deviating.
Rangsakona MLA and former Minister, Zenith Sangma, Salmanpara MLA, WD Sangma, DSEO, Ampati, R.Z.Das, other district officials, local leaders, school management committee members, teachers, parents and students were also present.
Sangma expressed his happiness to be part of the celebration of 50 glorious years of the school’s service to the people of the area and said that the school was a result of the community coming together. While there are many reasons for them to rejoice there are also a number of issues and concerns that can be addressed as a community, he said.  Calling upon the community to come together to review thesystem from time to time, Sangma also underlined the importance of physical activity and physical conditioning for the students and urged upon the school management not to forget that aspect of education.
Sangma also expressed his happiness to dedicate the new building and facilities therein “for grooming and nurturing the young minds”. 
Later, Sangma also gave away the prizes to the winners of marathon which was organised as part of the golden jubilee celebration.
