Shillong: In the midst of the prevailing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country, the state government has decided to fix rates for masks and sanitisers to meet the public demand.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, said that the retail prices of melt-blown non-woven fabric used in manufacturing masks (2 ply and 3 ply), will not be more than the prices before February 12.
“The retail prices of masks (3 ply surgical mask) shall not to be more than the prices prevailing on the day one month prior to March 13, i.e., as on February 12 or not more than Rs 10 per piece, whichever is lower and that of mask (2ply) shall not be more that Rs 8 per piece,” the statement read.
The retail prices of hand sanitisers, on the other hand, are fixed below Rs 100 for a 200 ml bottle.
“The retail prices of hand sanitisers shall not be more than Rs 100 per bottle of 200 ML; the prices of other quantities of hand sanitisers shall be fixed in the proportion of these prices,” the statement added.
To combat overcharging of the above-mentioned items, the statement also said that people can complain by writing to the respective Deputy Commissioners/Sub-Divisional Officers or by calling on a toll-free number – 1967 – for strict actions.
The order will remain in force till June 30.
