NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat has clarified that he has provided relief to more than 13 villages of the constituency and the reason most people don’t know about it is because he does not it to be politicised or publicised.
In a press conference held on Sunday, Byrsat said, “There are people who alleged through social media that Nongstoin MLA is doing nothing. I don’t want to publicise about what I am doing and only those who received the relief will know.” He also slammed those who criticised him.
The MLA informed that three days after the lockdown was imposed in the state, he took the decision and authorised some persons to distribute relief in the villages.
“We did an assessment before distribution and we delivered the relief on the same day and till date 13 villages have received essential commodities,” he said.
He also lauded the NPP units for their help and support.
Byrsat said that during this time of crisis making hasty decision might not be helpful as lockdown is likely to get extended which is why assessment is necessary before distribution.
He further said that the relief will be distributed only to the families who cannot afford food.
“I also appeal to all not to be misled by a few negative-minded people because I know what is best for the people of Nongstoin and I assure that no one will die of hunger.”
The MLA urged individuals or groups to donate food to the people who are in need.
Meanwhile, he urged the people of Nongstoin to cooperate with the district administration and to follow the instruction from the Health department to maintain social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
