SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Sunday said the state is likely to double or treble the testing facilities in the next “48 to 72 hours.”
Speaking at a media briefing, he said permission has been granted for ICAR, Umiam as a testing centre.
“We are aware about the ICAR testing facilities and it was Meghalaya government that had taken this matter up almost about three weeks back with ICMR and during that time the ICAR did not give the permission. However, the permission has finally being given”, he said.
“We have already started moving once again with them but apart from that the government is working on increasing facilities through other technologies also. I think in about another 24 hours to 48 hours we will be having better information on that and I will be able to report.  We should be able to double if not treble the testing facilities in the next 48 hours or 72 hours”, he said.
To a question on MHA order on movement of standard migrants within the state, he said the government would follow strict protocols.
“There will be complete assessment of areas which have been affected and a decision will be taken only after that”, he said adding that as for districts which are not affected as of now decision will be taken only after strict protocol and strict measures are taken.
As for online classes in rural areas, he said that the education department was working on the modalities.
“We are aware of the limitations but since the possibilities and the opportunity is there we should use it and try give the benefit to as many students as possible through the technology platforms”, he said.
