SHILLONG: Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang lauded the ASHA and Anganwadi workers for their contribution in the fight against the COVID-19 and urged the government to acknowledge and recognise the frontline workers by honouring them for their work. ‘The ASHA and Anganwadi workers have a role to play with regard to checking on the returnees and the people under home quarantine, Shangpliang said at a programme at Mawsynram CHC on Monday. ‘We have to discipline the people who have arrived from outside the state as we have found that 400 returnees have violated the lockdown protocols. We have to surrender the violators to ASHA and headmen to ensure that they do not leave till they have completed the quarantine period’, he said.
With spiking cases in Assam, Shangpliang urged the people to report to the Dorbar Shnong if they have any travel history to prevent the spread of the virus.
‘There were positive cases in the state and we have witnessed the service of ASHA workers during this time. We can show our respect by giving some compensation or honorarium to them. In doing so, it will boost their morale’, Shangpliang told reporters .
