Inter-district travel allowed in EJH, SWKH

KHLIEHRIAT/MAWKYRWAT: The District Magistrates of East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills have permitted inter-district travel following the order issued by the Transport department.
As per the order, 50% of private and public transport is permitted to operate in the two districts on rotation basis, besides permission for inter-district movement of citizens.
Vehicles with odd registration numbers will be allowed to ply on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while vehicles with even registration number will be allowed to ply on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in both the districts. On Sunday, only private vehicles will be allowed to ply.
In addition, the vehicles are to strictly utilise only 50% seating capacity. Small four-wheelers are to ply with two passengers and for two-wheelers pillion riding is restricted only to females or children below the age of 12. The driver and passenger are to strictly ensure social distancing wearing of mask at all times, use of gloves, hand sanitisers and to strictly follow all other advisories of the Health & Family Welfare department.
South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo said that public transport vehicles are to charge fares only as approved by the District Transport Officer, Mawkyrwat and the approved rate must be pasted on the vehicle.
“No driver should over-charge the passengers and in case of violation, necessary action will be taken. Further, for inter-district travel, the driver is to maintain a record of the names of travelers as per the prescribed format given by this office and submit the same to the officer in-charge at Umjarain check-point,” the DC said.
Further, the DC also said that only vehicles having market pass already issued by the office of the DC may be permitted to enter inside Mawkyrwat Market and use the designated parking lot.
