SHILLONG: Member District Council (MDC ) of Sohryngkham who is also the Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Pyniaid Sing Syiem met the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday to apprise him of the condition motorable bridge that connects Umpling to Rynjah that was washed away during the flood.
The construction of which was stalled due to the lock down. The Deputy CM assured Syiem that the construction would continue and he would call the Chief Engineer and Executive Engineer to look into the work.
The bridge was being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore under the Central Road Funds (CRF).
The headmen of Rynjah, Umpling and Nongrim Hills along with Syeim had inspected the bridge on June 16.
On the other hand, Syiem also said that the three Dorbar shnongs and the MDC had decided to make a proposal for construction of a motorable bridge at Dong Sharum, Umpling to connect Madan Rumnong and Nongrim Hills which will ease the congestion in the neighbouring localities and Shillong as a whole.
In this connection, he has requested government for a scheme to execute the proposed project.
Citing the relevance of the bridge, he said that Umpling has a population of over 12,000 and having a bridge will ease traffic issues as people from Rynjah, Nongrim Hills, Umpling and Lapalang will be benefited from the proposed project.
