NONGSTOIN: The office of the District Medical & Health Officer along with West Khasi Hills district administration on Thursday collected 40 samples in Nongstoin market taking the total to 160 that have been sent to NEIGRIHMS for testing.
Shop owners and sellers, commuters and local taxi drivers at the market were among the target group.
Doctors told the media that the main purpose of the random test is to detect COVID-19 positive cases in the district with an aim to encourage others to come forward to get themselves tested, so that positive cases may be traced.
Recently, samples have been also collected from police and bank and government employees.
Meanwhile, the West Khasi Hills District Police today announced the rules and regulations as well as penalties against violation of advisories of the Health department to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
