NONGSTOIN/KHLIEHRIAT: In its ongoing bid to contain the spread of COVID-19, the district magistrates of East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills have extended night curfew in the districts.
While in West Khasi Hills the curfew has been extended till August 3, in East Jaintia Hills, however, the district magistrate has announced an indefinite curfew. In both the districts, the night curfew would be imposed every day from 9 pm to 5 am.
A statement from the East Jaintia Hills district magistrate said on Sunday that the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods, security forces, medical equipment and shops for repair of truck on highways have been exempted from the purview of the order. However, drivers and occupants of the vehicles have been directed to undergo medical screening.
“Curfew passes for timings falling between 9 pm to 5 am with effect from July 27 until further orders to be obtained by offline application to the office of the undersigned along with headmen certificate for such specific needs,” the statement added.
In WKH, however, the restrictions and relaxations will continue to remain the same as per earlier orders.
