JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), on Tuesday, approved the resolution tabled by Chief Executive Member (CEM), Thombor Shiwat, to stop new appointments in the Council.
The CEM informed the House that the resolution will help in improving the financial crisis in the Council.
Meanwhile, the Opposition members have strongly opposed the said resolution.
BJP MDC Lakhon Biam stated that the resolution will discourage the educated unemployed youth of the district, who are aspirants of posts in various department of the Council.
The JHADC is over-staffed apart from also facing acute financial crisis. The employees have not been paid salaries for nearly eight months.
The JHADC has to spend around Rs 7 crore per month for payment of staff salary.
