Dorbar supplies food items to Mawbah residents
SHILLONG: The Dorbar Shnong of Mawbah on Sunday distributed food supply to more than 120 families in the locality which was a containment zone for a week. The headman said that they even distributed the supply in a building which is containment zone. “We distributed rice, dal and chana provided by the local MLA,” he said. M Rapsang, who was not present during the distribution of essential commodities, said that he did not attend the programme since this is not a time to gain mileage out of people’s suffering. “People are suffering and this time we don’t indulge in politics but help the people,” the MLA said.

Probe into farmers’ plight sought
SHILLONG: The Ri Bhoi People & Farmers Association has sought the intervention of Deputy Commissioner into the plight of the farmers who are unable to repay the agricultural loans. In a letter to the DC, the Association also highlighted the hardships faced by the farmers, especially at a juncture when lockdowns are unforeseeable and banks are merciless in procuring the loan instalments. “This needs to be redressed wisely from your level at the right time before it is too late. Rural livelihood has been mostly at the brims of uncertainty,” the Association urged the DC.

HYC asks people to get Aadhaar
SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has alleged that many people have been deprived of government benefits for not possessing Aadhaar card.  In a statement issued here, the HYC central body urged the people to enrol themselves for Aadhaar to avail the benefits of government schemes. The state has the lowest number of people enrolled for Aadhaar, the HYC said.  The HYC has written to the state government to take up the matter with the Centre to seek exemption for the residents of Meghalaya as most of the residents do not have Aadhaar cards.
