SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has granted bail to the traditional heads of West Jaintia Hills, Daniel Khongsit and Donstan Khonglah, who are allegedly involved in the assault and tonsuring of a woman.
The court on Tuesday made the interim bail granted to the duo absolute.
While Khongsit is the headman of Bakur village, Khonglah is the secretary.
The single bench headed by Judge, W Diengdoh ordered that the petitioners (traditional heads), if arrested, should be released on bail with conditions.
One condition is that they shall execute a personal bond of Rs 50,000 each with two sureties for each one of them of like amount.
“That they shall not abscond or tamper with the evidence or witnesses and that they shall not threaten the complainant or cause obstruction to her peaceful habitation in the village” are other conditions.
The traditional heads have been asked to co-operate with the investigation officer as and when required.
“Needless to say, violation of all or any of the conditions would allow the investigation officer to pray for cancellation of the bail”, the order said.
