Four held for smuggling fake currency

NONGSTOIN: Assam Police on Thursday arrested four residents of Nongstoin in Jagiroad on charges of peddling fake currency.
Sources informed The Shillong Times that fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, worth Rs 10 lakh, was seized from them. The four had reportedly travelled to Jagiroad to “buy” the fake notes at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
Two of them have been identified as Shainingstar Myrthong and Iaiskhemlang L Marshillong, residents of Upper New Nongstoin. They work for Rosshaiwel K Syntiew, a businessman. A case has been registered against them at Rupahihat Police Station in Assam.
The matter came to light on Friday after the employer contacted Nongstoin Police over fears that they might have been kidnapped since they were not answering his calls.
Details about their arrest were known only after Nongstoin Police sought the help of Assam Police to trace them.
