TURA: Villagers from Mikdikgre region of South Garo Hills district have written a letter to the district police seeking the establishment of a police outpost in their area.
The villagers, led by the village Nokma and student groups, have also announced their decision to donate the land for the outpost.
“Mikdikgre is 27 km away from district headquarters Baghmara and in a remote corner. There is no mobile communication network present and the roads are in a terrible condition. In times of emergency situations people have no one to turn to due to the remoteness of the region,” lamented Garo Students Union leader, Greneth M Sangma.
Villagers also recalled the problems faced by them during the height of militancy in the Garo Hills, barely two years ago, and express worry about the future.
