MAWKYRWAT: With the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) forecasting that heavy rainfall is expected in South West Khasi Hills from September 21 -27, the South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, C Kharkongor, has issued some dos and don’ts for the public.
According to the weather forecast issued by the IMD on Wednesday, thunderstorm with lightning, heavy to very heavy rainfall and light to moderate rainfall may be expected in South West Khasi Hills from September 23 – 27.
The DC has suggested that people should not walk on the paths which are waterlogged, children should abstain themselves from playing in the accumulated water, people should not touch fallen wires and electrical poles.
The Deputy Commissioner has also advised people to abstain themselves from standing or parking their vehicles under trees, and has urged people to not venture near stream or rivers and avoid angling.
Avoiding stepping out of homes unless it is very important, avoid driving through submerged water, always take safer road, make sure that house is stocked up with essential items, turn off electrical appliances during thunder storms, turn off gas connections in case of flood, turn off lights and fans if the ceiling is leaking, were some of the other how-tos from the Deputy Commissioner to steer clear of any peril during the rainy season.
