SHILLONG: The Executive Committee of Seng Kur Warjri informed that the Annual General Council 2020, slated to be held at Sohryngkham village, has been cancelled due to concerns that arose out of the stringent regulations imposed by the authorities in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the Committee expressed concern over the effect of COVID-19 stating the consequences as “burdensome” especially for the poor.
“The consequences are more burdensome for the underprivileged, particularly the inhabitants at the remote areas of the state,” the Committee said in the statement.
Elaborating on the issue, the Committee mentioned about the family of one elderly lady, Thaneh Warjri of Kyrdemkulai, who was infected with cataract and gradually lost her eyesight. The onslaught of coronavirus had brought about severe misfortune for her family as both her daughter and her husband died within a short span during the period of pandemic. Their children were orphaned and famished along with the helpless grandmother without any sources of income.
Consequently, the eldest adolescent grandchild, Aidalin Warjri, was bound and took the mantle of feeding her two younger brothers and her ailing grandmother through a non-lucrative job in the village.
After the clan elders of Seng Kur Warjri noticed them, immediate actions were taken by the clan organisation to provide some charities.
In the initial visit, essential commodities and clothing were donated during the initial visit. However, after discovering that the shed of their house was in a dilapidated condition, the clan also arranged for a renovation, which was completed recently.
On Monday, the delegation of Warjri clan organisation led by its president DL Warjri, general secretary Sunshine Warjri along with two executive members, Rudy Warjri and Raphael Warjri, visited the affected family and took stock of the situation with subsequent contribution of essential items and ensured the safety of the shelter and sufficient provision for livelihood.
The clan organisation appraised every unit in the state to be vigilant about such cases of adversity faced by the clan members in the society to tide over the situation, the statement added.
